The Maharashtra government, in a bid to avoid irregularities and the involvement of intermediaries and wealthy traders, announced on Tuesday that the money would be transferred directly to the accounts under the standards of direct transfer of benefits to producers of Vidarbha paddy.
DCM Ajit Pawar said the government will not pay the premium to the farmers but it will be directly transferred to their accounts after the government receives complaints about irregularities. Pawar, however, said the government would announce the amount to be transferred in due course after the ruling and opposition parties lobbied their request.
”Instead of the money going to the indigenous rice farmers, the money often goes to the traders. The paddy from other states also comes to Maharashtra and they also enjoy the bounty,” Pawar said in his response to demands made by ruling and opposition members in the state assembly.
Pawar said a meeting was held between the District Collector and the District Superintendent of Police to ensure that paddy from out of state does not harm local farmers.
