Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has faced a roadblock in her defamation lawsuit brought by poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
According to a report in Indian Express, a sessional court on Wednesday rejected two pleas filed by Ranaut to transfer the proceedings to another magistrate’s court. Currently, the proceedings of a defamation case by Akhtar and a counter-complaint by Ranaut alleging extortion are before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrates Court.
In her request for the transfer of the case, she claimed that she was not convinced that justice was served fairly by the Andheri court and that she had “lost faith”.
In 2020, Akhtar filed a defamation lawsuit against the ‘Lock Upp’ host following her interview with a TV station regarding the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
A year later, Ranaut filed a counter-complaint against Akhtar alleging he had criminally intimidated her.
Ranaut had made incriminating remarks against Akhtar during an interview broadcast on Republic TV. Following this interview, Akhtar filed a complaint against the actress.
Ranaut is busy promoting “Lock Upp,” a reality show she currently hosts. She is also working on ‘Tanu Weds Manu 3’.
